Ascension is nation’s second largest health system by hospital count

Ascension is No. 2 in the 2019 list of “100 of the largest hospitals and health systems in America” by Becker’s Hospital Review. It also is the largest nonprofit health system in the listing by hospital count.

With 151 hospitals, Ascension is behind only for-profit HCA Healthcare in Nashville, Tennessee, which has 185 hospitals.

“Being the second largest health system in the country gives us an influential voice in shaping national health policy in alignment with our Mission,” said Joseph R. Impicciche, JD, MHA, President and Chief Executive Officer. “It also provides us many opportunities to lead the transformation of healthcare as we test and implement new operating models, such as our work on creating the Caregiver Experience of the Future at Ascension St. Vincent’s Riverside in Jacksonville, Florida.”
