On Sunday, August 24, Ascension associates helped deliver personal items that will be distributed at a United Way center to residents in Ferguson, Missouri, without access to stores. Ascension’s Mission calls us to sustain and improve the health of individuals in the communities we serve. The recent events in Ferguson, have added to the existing burdens for many of our neighbors and businesses in North St. Louis County.
The United Way is coordinating the responses of faith-based organizations. These donations from Ascension were made available through the work of Mike Gray, Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Office for The Resource Group, Ascension’s resource and supply management subsidiary. In collaboration with Sr. Maureen McGuire, Executive Vice President of Mission Integration, Timm Glover, Senior Vice President, Mission Integration and Caroline Battles, Advocacy and External Relations, Gray worked with Scott MacClellan of TouchPoint to obtain the supply of personal items.
In addition to the immediate supplies, Ascension is donating $10,000 to the new Reinvest North County Fund established by the St. Louis Regional Business Council (RBC). The purpose of the Reinvest North County Fund is twofold: first, to provide immediate relief to small businesses that have been hurt by the recent events; and second, to provide school districts with appropriate resources to show their children how important school is, particularly in times of distress.
A panel composed of representatives from local organizations will select the projects to be funded.
