Six Ascension hospitals achieved the top 5-star rating for patient experience recently reported by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The rating system is based on responses to the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and System (HCAHPS) survey. The surveys are provided to a random sampling of patients. The most recent ratings are for patient responses from July 1, 2013, through June 30, 2014.
The Ascension hospitals that earned the 5-star rating are:
- Sacred Heart Hospital on the Gulf, part of Sacred Heart Health System, Florida
- Kansas Surgery and Recovery Center, part of Via Christi Health, Kansas
- Saint Thomas Hospital of Spinal Surgery, part of Saint Thomas Health, Nashville, Tennessee
- Calumet Medical Center, part of Ministry Health Care, Wisconsin
- Flambeau Hospital, part of Ministry Health Care, Wisconsin
- Ministry Eagle River Memorial Hospital, part of Ministry Health Care, Wisconsin
"Although the HCAHPS survey process is not perfect, it is one way to measure patient experience, and we congratulate the associates, physicians and volunteers at these eight hospitals on this achievement," said Ann Hendrich, RN, PhD, F.A.A.N., Ascension Health's Senior Vice President and Chief Quality/Safety/PSO and Nursing Officer.
