Pitt Magazine Profiles 2 Ascension Health Leaders

Pitt Magazine Profiles 2 Ascension Health Leaders

Two Ascension senior leaders are profiled in the Fall 2014/Winter 2015 edition of Pitt Public Health, a publication of the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health. Robert J. Henkel, FACHE, Executive Vice President, Ascension, and President and Chief Executive Officer, Ascension Health; and Patricia A. Maryland, Dr.PH, President, Healthcare Operations and Chief Operating Officer, Ascension Health, are featured in the Alumni Profiles section. Bob received his master's degree in Public Health in 1982, and Pat earned her doctorate in Public Health the same year.

The story begins: "If, in the early 1980s, Bob Henkel and Pat Maryland occasionally passed each other in Parran or Crabtree halls, neither remembers the encounters now. No matter. Today the pair of Pitt Public Health alumni, now president and CEO, and president of health care operations and COO, respectively, see each other on a daily basis at the St. Louis, Mo., offices of Ascension Health."

In the story, Bob and Pat discuss Ascension's success in improving patient safety and innovations in caring for those who are poor and vulnerable.
