Patricia Maryland, Dr.PH, President of Healthcare Operations and Chief Operating Officer of Ascension Health, presented the closing keynote address during the Women Leaders in Healthcare Conference hosted by Modern Healthcare.
She also was recognized as one of the Top 25 Women in Healthcare at the Awards Dinner that evening. Kathleen Sebelius, former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, gave the opening keynote address.

Other Top 25 honorees included Sylvia Burwell, Health and Human Services Secretary; Sister Carol Keehan, President and CEO of the Catholic Health Association of the United States; Deborah Bowen, President and CEO of the American College of Healthcare Executives; Maureen Bisognano, President and CEO of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement; Karen Ignagni, President and CEO of America's Health Insurance Plans; and Dr. Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, President and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Dr. Maryland also was one of five women healthcare leaders featured in a recent Healthcare Financial Management Association article, Negotiating the Path to Leadership, in which they shared advice and strategies for reaching leadership roles in healthcare.
Dr. Maryland encouraged young women leaders to not be afraid to hire the best. "Surround yourself with stars, and together you'll shine so much brighter than one star," she said.
