St. John Health System, of the Ascension Tulsa Ministry Market, is assuming operations of several health services in Independence, Kansas, that had been provided by Mercy, a St. Louis-based Catholic health system. The services include Mercy's primary and specialty care clinic, diagnostic lab, imaging services, and retail pharmacy.
St. John Clinic, including primary care and specialty physician practice clinics, will open January 8. Jane Phillips MedCare Pharmacy opened January 4, and Regional Medical Lab (RML) services will maintain operations at its current location while new construction takes place.
"It is our privilege to provide care to the people of Independence and the surrounding areas, allowing St. John to serve a great community and to further our Mission," said Robert Kenagy, MD, St. John Health Network Senior Vice President.
In addition to the clinic and pharmacy operations, Jane Phillips Medical Center, part of St. John Health System, will provide imaging services beginning in the spring.
"Jane Phillips Medical Center has a proud history of providing award-winning, quality, and compassionate healthcare to residents in northeastern Oklahoma and southeastern Kansas," said Mike A. Moore, Jane Phillips Medical Center Chief Operating Officer. "Being part of a large health system allows our patients to have access to top-tier medical professionals, technology and services, and we are excited to be able to provide these to the Independence community."
"We are thrilled to bring this long process to conclusion with the right partner for this community," said Kim Day, interim leader for Mercy Independence. "We are confident that St. John will maintain high standards for quality care in Independence that are sustainable for the long term."
