St. Vincent Indianapolis Trauma Center Receives Level I Verification

St. Vincent Indianapolis Trauma Center Receives Level I Verification

St. Vincent Indianapolis, part of the Ascension Indiana Ministry Market, has been verified by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) as a Level I Trauma Center. The ACS verification confirms that the hospital is equipped for, and capable of, providing the highest level of care for patients with the most serious injuries.

It is now the third verified adult Level I Trauma Center in Indiana, and the only trauma center on the Northside of Indianapolis.

"Today's announcement is an important step for the State of Indiana and a central part of a statewide St. Vincent strategy to improve access to high-quality care for all Hoosiers," said Jonathan Nalli, Senior Vice President, Ascension Health/Indiana Ministry Market Executive.

The trauma center at St. Vincent Indianapolis is the state's second busiest and a crucial destination for trauma patients with serious injuries. Through St. Vincent STAT Flight, an emergency medical helicopter service with five bases throughout the state, patients have region-wide access to rapid transportation and high-level trauma care.

"From the outset, St. Vincent has always been committed to providing the highest level of care for trauma patients in Indiana," said Lewis Jacobson, MD, medical director of the trauma center at St. Vincent Indianapolis. "The ACS provides important outside verification of the full scope and quality of care provided by our trauma center. Recognition from the team of expert reviewers at the ACS is a testament to the hard work of our associates, who stand ready to meet the needs of the most seriously injured patients at a moment's notice. In addition, Level I Trauma Centers provide leadership in trauma education, research, disaster management and system planning."

The ACS verification follows an on-site peer review and assessment from experts in the field of trauma care regarding St. Vincent Indianapolis' commitment, readiness, resources, policies, patient care, and performance improvement to care for trauma patients.
