St. John Clinic physician Kevin Steichen, MD, is the recipient of this year's Physician of the Year award presented by the Oklahoma Academy of Family Physicians (OAFP). St. John Clinic is part of St. John Health System in the Ascension Tulsa Ministry Market.
Dr. Steichen received the award during the Oklahoma Academy of Family Physicians Scientific Assembly dinner June 17.
"I am deeply honored to receive this award," Dr. Steichen said. "I give my thanks to the OAFP and to all who have made this possible. The OAFP is the cornerstone and primary voice for family physicians in Oklahoma."
Dr. Steichen was nominated for the award by members of the OAFP. Nominations are reviewed by a nomination committee and voted on by the organization's board.
Dr. Steichen grew up in Tonkawa, Oklahoma, and is the oldest son of a family of eight. He graduated with honors from Northern Oklahoma College, Tonkawa, before attending the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, Oklahoma City.
As a senior medical student, he received the Family Practice Award for demonstrating the greatest aptitude for the specialty. He has volunteered for the past 30 years at the Neighbor for Neighbor free clinic, and received the Family Practice Teaching Award as a volunteer clinic faculty member in 1990.
