AMITA Health hospital partners with community organizations to give kids summer meals

For some children, school lunches are a staple of the nutritious diet needed for a growing body and mind. This means that, when school breaks for summer, they’re at risk of not getting the nourishment they need.

To help, AMITA Health Resurrection Medical Center Chicago, New Hope Community Food Pantry and Union Ridge Elementary School are partnering to bring free, nutritious meals to children in the community during the summer break. Meals will be available to all children 18 years and under through the Summer Food Service Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and administered by the Illinois State Board of Education. AMITA Health is a joint operating company of Ascension and Adventist Health System. Lunches will be available at Union Ridge Elementary in Harwood Heights, Illinois. “This program is so important for the children of our community,” said Mariana Wrzosek, Director, Community Health, AMITA Health Resurrection Medical Center. “Many of us take for granted that summer is a time of joy. For many, it can also be a time of hunger.”
