What does the future of modern marketing look like? Recently, Nick Ragone, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, Ascension, spoke about the importance of data in the future of marketing.
As noted in this Learning from Leaders video, Nick didn’t start out his career in marketing, but his personal story of change illustrates the way skills flow across industries as people take new roles. In the video, Nick shares how he charted a course from being a lawyer and telling stories in the courtroom to telling stories in the court of public opinion for Ascension.
“Legal is telling a story in the courtroom; marketing is telling a story to public opinion,” he said. The changes in Ascension over the past few years, which include creating a singular message about Ascension’s Mission, have led Nick to embrace and understand the principles of large-scale change management, he said.
In the video interview, Nick discusses how the digital era has impacted how healthcare organizations interact with those they serve and transformed what people expect from their experience. The end result has seen marketing become a central tool in the transformation of healthcare, and that has put Nick’s storytelling abilities to work.
“Think about the simple shareable story,” he said. “Don’t overthink it. If you tell someone the story and they can’t tell it to someone else, it’s not a shareable story.”
Nick’s story encompasses data and analytics, people and big ideas and the strength of our Mission, all while helping to define for consumers just what a great end-to-end experience should be.
