Stuffed animals to provide ‘Hugs of Comfort’ for children

Each year, members of the Lakeland Area Republican Women’s Club (LARWC) in Wisconsin embark on a service project to benefit the community. This year, the nearly 30-member group chose to support area emergency services by providing approximately 275 stuffed animals for use when EMS personnel interact with children.

LARWC members recently gathered at Howard Young Medical Center, part of Ascension Wisconsin, to present the stuffed animals as part of their Hugs of Comfort project to 10 Lakeland Area emergency service agencies.

“This is our club’s way of saying thank you to the police, fire and emergency medical services who provide invaluable service to our community,” said Norma Duerst, LARWC President. “We are blessed to support the many dedicated professionals and volunteers who care for our residents and the many visitors to the area.”

Municipal and county fire, police, sheriff and first responder agencies that benefited from Hugs of Comfort included Howard Young Medical Center and Ascension Wisconsin Spirit Medical Transport.

“This is another example of the tremendous support we receive from the community,” said Rick Brodhead, MD, Medical Director of Emergency Services at Howard Young Medical Center. “This donation will provide comfort to children served by these agencies and ease the fear they may have as they receive treatment.”
