Ascension Indiana CNO talks about nursing shortage

Ascension St. Vincent Chief Nursing Officer Cindy Adams recently discussed how Ascension Indiana is tackling the shortage of the No. 1 in-demand occupation in the state – nursing.

In a video interview with Inside Indiana Business, Cindy says Indiana is expecting 19% growth in the need for nurses over the next 10 years, and nationally about 1 million nurses will retire over the next decade. As a result, she says, Ascension is rethinking how to approach care delivery in different ways.

She also talks about Ascension’s plans to support with Project Lead The Way by hosting student showcases in partnership that will give students a chance to demonstrate their problem-solving skills and compete for scholarships.

Project Lead the Way is a nonprofit organization that empowers students to develop in-demand knowledge and skills. PLTW also provides teacher training and resources to support teachers as they engage their students in real-life learning.
