Ascension boosts interest in nurse preceptorship through revamped training program

Ascension knows that continued investment in nurse education and development is crucial to cultivating a robust and resilient network of caregivers enabled to meet healthcare’s evolving demands together. Our nurse preceptors play a pivotal role in these efforts, by supporting new graduates in their journey from student to professional nurse, a demographic of the healthcare workforce that can experience high turnover in their first year.

When we recognized a critical need to revamp nurse preceptor training, we launched a comprehensive, evidence-based overhaul of our past training models to directly address feedback from nurses new to precepting, who identified a greater need for mentorship and onboarding, instead of just the transition to bedside clinical practice.

As of January, more than 3,200 nurses have completed our training program to become certified preceptors.
