As part of that celebration, associates participated in a Recommitment Ceremony and a Blessing of the Hands. Care teams at Sacred Heart Emerald Coast confirmed their dedication to our Mission and Values of serving our community with reverence, integrity, and creativity with a focus on the poor and vulnerable. Associates also participated in creating a hands wall with the service commitments, placing paint on their hands and then putting it against the wall to create a collage. The service commitments are Extend Kindness, Listen to Understand, and Serve Together. Dozens of associates took part in the activity, including Sacred Heart Emerald Coast President and CEO Trey Abshier. The hospital was a grassroots effort supported by the community and Ascension following the closure of another area hospital. In 2000, community members began a purple ribbon campaign, raising $20 million toward hospital construction, with the land being donated by the St. Joe Company. The next year, construction began on the $53 million facility. Ascension Sacred Heart Emerald Coast opened in 2003 and continues to expand services to support the needs of the community as the only hospital in Walton County. Ascension Sacred Heart Emerald Coast consistently ranks among the top hospitals in the country and state for patient safety, experience and satisfaction. It is a destination for specialty care including spine and joint replacement surgery, heart care, and cancer care. The hospital's Family Birth Place is recognized as one of the top maternity facilities in the country.
