Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin Celebrates 50th Anniversary

Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin celebrated its 50th anniversary with an event for associates at the hospital. Since opening its doors in 1975, Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin has been a cornerstone of compassionate care and innovation in Central Texas.

On March 23, 1975, patients were transferred from the Seton Infirmary to our current location in a coordinated effort involving ambulances, volunteers and medics from the Texas National Guard. Just a few months later, on May 11,1975, our official dedication day coincided with the start of National Hospital Week, marking the beginning of our journey in providing quality healthcare to our community.

From welcoming more than 50,000 babies by 1977, to pioneering heart transplants in Central Texas in 1986, and breaking ground on state-of-the-art expansions in 2023, the hospital has continuously evolved to meet the needs of our growing community. As we look ahead, the opening of the new women’s hospital in Spring 2026 promises to add another chapter to our legacy of excellence.
