Ascension has released its third-quarter financial results for the nine months ended March 31, 2025 (Q3 FY25 YTD), reporting net income of $195 million. These results reflect significant operational advancements as Ascension continues to focus on community health, increasing lives served, fair rate improvements, and efficiency measures to strengthen its ability to provide high-quality care and serve its Mission.
During the first nine months of FY25, Ascension reported a loss from recurring operations of $381 million and for Q3 FY25 the recurring operating loss was $68 million, reflecting a $1.4 billion improvement from Q4 FY24. The total operating loss for Q3 FY25 YTD was $466 million, inclusive of $85 million in one-time, non-cash write-downs and other non-recurring losses.
The recurring operating EBIDA for the first nine months of FY25 reached +$566 million, an EBIDA margin of +2.9% and days cash on hand improved to 218 days.
Ascension’s commitment to Mission, efficiency, and clinical excellence continues to drive meaningful improvements in patient care. Rising patient volumes at acute care facilities—including a 6–7% increase in same-facility daily volumes since Q4 FY24—reflect strategic investments in ambulatory expansion, service line growth, and a focus on community care. A 1.6% improvement in same-facility length of stay ensures that patients receive timely, efficient care without compromising quality outcomes, allowing them to return home to their families and friends sooner. Digital innovations and operational enhancements are simplifying access to care, making it easier for patients to navigate their healthcare journeys with confidence. Growing patient trust and satisfaction in Ascension is reflected in March’s all-time high Net Promoter Score (NPS) which remains over 80 with a select group of other world-class experience brands.
“We continue to deliver strong results by staying focused on our Mission and the communities we serve,” said Eduardo Conrado, President of Ascension. “Since Q4 FY24, we have improved recurring operating performance by $1.4 billion, while increasing patient volumes and same-facility revenue. This momentum reflects the discipline of our teams, the dedication of our caregivers, and a strategy grounded in compassion, performance, and data-driven decision-making. We are removing barriers to care, improving patient experiences, and building a more connected system that is better equipped to serve every community today and into the future.”
Beyond the walls of our sites of care, Ascension continues to deepen its impact in the communities it serves. The organization has provided $1.2 billion in care for persons living in poverty and other community benefit programs in the first nine months of FY25.
Delivering on its Mission, Ascension is investing in targeted initiatives to address health disparities, food insecurity, and transportation barriers, partnering with local organizations to provide critical resources for underserved populations. In Texas, Ascension Seton Medical Center launched the Compassion Closet, offering essential items to support mothers, newborns, and their families. In Indiana, the Ascension St. Vincent Anderson patient shuttle ensures that patients can access their medical appointments by providing reliable transportation—removing a key obstacle to continuity of care.
Ascension continues to expand access and specialized care with new investments across its communities. The Women and Infants Hospital at Ascension St. Vincent in Indianapolis, opened on January 18, 2025, provides high-risk maternal and fetal care, including 24/7 emergency services and a Level IV NICU at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital—one of only two Level IV perinatal centers in Indiana. The Lucas Family Brain and Spine Hospital at Ascension St. Vincent will enhance neurological care with 38 ICU rooms, eight surgical suites, and two neuroradiology labs, offering advanced treatment for stroke and complex neurovascular conditions. Additionally, the Dispensary of Hope in Manhattan, Kansas, a partnership between Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, the Manhattan Community Health Foundation, and local providers, offers free prescription medications to low-income, uninsured individuals, ensuring those in need can access lifesaving treatments without a referral.
In April 2025, Ascension also announced the acquisition of Cedar Park Regional Medical Center in Texas to its portfolio, further enhancing clinical care offerings for communities in the Austin area.
At the heart of this progress are Ascension’s associates, whose commitment and expertise make these advancements possible. Nurse retention rates have reached a milestone moment, climbing to 88.3%—a level not seen in five years. This achievement reflects the success of ongoing initiatives to foster a more supportive and engaging workplace. By investing in career growth opportunities and reinforcing a culture that prioritizes associate well-being, Ascension is strengthening its workforce, reducing turnover, and decreasing reliance on agency staffing—ensuring a more stable, consistent care environment for patients.
“The $566 million in recurring operating EBIDA and +2.9% margin through Q3 FY25 reflect targeted efforts to strengthen operating performance across our system,” said Saurabh Tripathi, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Ascension. “We have seen measurable growth in same-facility revenue, patient throughput, and nurse retention—all reinforcing our operational foundation. These results allow us to reinvest in critical areas, including clinical infrastructure, digital innovation, and expanded access in the communities we serve. Our financial strategy remains focused on long-term stability and mission-aligned growth.”
Looking ahead, Ascension remains steadfast in its commitment to expanding access, empowering its clinicians and caregivers, and ensuring every individual receives the right care at the right time. With sustained financial discipline and a focus on Mission-driven growth, Ascension is not just improving—but redefining what it means to serve with excellence, integrity, and purpose to bring health, healing and hope to all.
