Celebrating National Nurses Week at Ascension Saint Thomas

National Nurses Week, observed each year from May 6–12, is a time to recognize the vital role nurses play in delivering compassionate, high-quality healthcare. At Ascension Saint Thomas, this week holds special meaning as the organization honors its dedicated nursing staff for their unwavering commitment to patients and the community. This year’s Nursing Community theme, “Caring with Strength, Healing with Heart,” beautifully captures the spirit of our nurses, who tirelessly work to continue the Mission of Ascension Saint Thomas. Their dedication, skill and generosity of spirit inspire us each day.

A Legacy of Nursing Excellence

With a legacy spanning more than 125 years, Ascension Saint Thomas is a cornerstone of healthcare in Nashville and Middle Tennessee. The organization operates more than 320 sites of care, including 18 hospitals, and employs over 13,000 associates. Together, they serve millions of patients annually—underscoring the essential role of nurses in delivering patient-centered care across a broad and growing network.

Recognizing Outstanding Caregivers

Ascension Saint Thomas celebrates the achievements of its nursing professionals through meaningful recognition programs:

  • The DAISY Award: An international honor that celebrates nurses for their clinical excellence and compassionate care. Patients, families, and colleagues can nominate nurses who have made a significant difference in their healthcare experience.

  • The BEE Award: Recognizes non-nursing team members who provide exceptional support and contribute to a positive, healing environment.

These awards reflect the organization's deep appreciation for the dedication and professionalism of its entire care team.

Investing in Education and Community Engagement

Ascension Saint Thomas is committed to nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals through robust community partnerships and educational programs. In collaboration with local institutions, the organization offers a wide range of training and development opportunities—including nurse residency programs for recent graduates and career pathways for experienced RNs. Nursing specialties and accelerated programs are also available through partnerships with Marian University and Lipscomb University.

Looking Ahead

As National Nurses Week 2025 unfolds, Ascension Saint Thomas proudly celebrates the compassion, skill, and resilience of its nurses. Through recognition, education, and community outreach, the organization remains steadfast in its support of the caregivers who are essential to its mission of delivering exceptional, faith-based care.

This week, and every week, we honor the nurses who make a lasting impact on the lives of those they serve.
