Three Ascension Florida hospitals earn ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade

Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola, Ascension St. Vincent’s Southside and Ascension St. Vincent’s Clay County earned an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade from the Leapfrog Group for the spring 2025 grading period. The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization grades almost 3,000 general hospitals throughout the United States.

The Safety Grade assigns an ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’, or ‘F’ grade to all general acute care hospitals nationwide. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program exclusively based on hospital prevention of medical errors, infections and injuries.

“Patient safety is our top priority, that’s why all of our facilities aim to achieve the high standards set by the Leapfrog Group whose goal is to raise the bar for safer health care,” said Dr. Syed Jafri, Chief Clinical Officer, Ascension Florida. “Sacred Heart Pensacola, St. Vincent’s Clay County and St. Vincent’s Southside have continually demonstrated excellence as evidenced by their ‘A’ ratings.”

Sacred Heart Pensacola, St. Vincent’s Southside and Clay County are among 32% of hospitals nationwide to achieve a spring 2025 ‘A’. In Florida, the hospitals are three of only 70 to achieve an ‘A’. This is the ninth consecutive ‘A’ grade for Sacred Heart Pensacola, the third consecutive ‘A’ grade for St. Vincent’s Clay County and the second consecutive ‘A' for St. Vincent’s Southside.

“Achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade reflects enormous dedication to patient safety,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “I extend my congratulations to Sacred Heart Pensacola, St. Vincent’s Clay County and St. Vincent's Southside for their leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for creating a culture where patients come first.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Hospital Safety Grade results are updated each fall and spring.

Ascension Sacred Heart health system and St. Vincent’s health system were also recognized as top 15 health systems in the country for 2024 by Fortune and PINC AI.
