Via Christi has named Maurice Duggins, MD, as its new Chief Medical Officer with a primary focus at St. Joseph hospital. Dr. Duggins brings over two decades of dedicated service to Via Christi, along with extensive clinical and leadership experience. He will start July 6. Dr. Duggins' journey with Via Christi began in 2002, following his role as medical director for a Wichita safety-net clinic. For over 22 years, he has played a vital role in shaping the future of healthcare as a faculty member of the Via Christi Family Medicine Residency Program. During this time, he has held numerous leadership positions, including serving on many committees including leading the Family Maternal Child Committee.
Dr. Duggins' commitment to the broader medical community is evident in his service as President of the Medical Society of Sedgwick County (2023). He formerly served as Via Christi Medical Staff President (2009-2010) and currently sits on the Ascension Via Christi Hospitals Wichita, Inc. and Ascension Via Christi Hospital St. Teresa, Inc. boards. He has served as a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Kansas School of Medicine since 2011. Dr. Duggins received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry from Sterling College and Doctor of Medicine from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He completed his Family Medicine Residency at Via Christi St. Joseph Family Medicine Residency in 1996. He was named a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians in 2022.

Sheryl Beard, MD, who has been serving as Chief Medical Officer for all Via Christi hospitals, will continue her leadership as CMO with a primary focus at St. Francis hospital. The two will split CMO responsibilities at the other Via Christi hospitals.
