Ascension St. John is proud to announce a major achievement in patient care in Northeast Oklahoma. We have been awarded the American Heart Association’s (AHA) 2025 Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Gold Plus Award. This prestigious award highlights our strong commitment to providing high-quality stroke care based on the latest evidence-based clinical guidelines.
The Gold Plus designation indicates that we consistently meet key performance measures over a period of twelve consecutive months. These measures are essential for ensuring optimal patient outcomes during stroke incidents. In addition to the Gold Plus Award, we also received three notable honors that showcase our comprehensive approach to care:
Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus – This recognition honors hospitals that meet stringent door-to-treatment time targets. Quick treatment is crucial for patients experiencing acute ischemic strokes, as timely clot-busting interventions can significantly improve their chances of recovery. Our ability to meet these rapid response targets demonstrates our commitment to acting with urgency when every minute counts.
Advanced Therapy – This designation reflects our capacity to provide advanced endovascular therapy options, such as mechanical thrombectomy, for eligible stroke patients. This therapy is vital for patients with certain types of strokes, as it can effectively remove blood clots that block blood flow to the brain, reducing the risk of long-term damage and increasing survival rates.
Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll – This honor signifies our excellence in managing stroke patients who also have Type 2 diabetes. We focus on reducing secondary complications commonly associated with diabetes and supporting long-term health and wellness in these patients.
This comprehensive care model emphasizes the importance of addressing multiple health concerns simultaneously for improved patient outcomes. Achieving these awards is the result of effective collaboration among our dedicated teams in emergency medicine, neurology, nursing, interventional radiology and rehabilitation. This teamwork reflects our hospital's commitment to continuous improvement, rapid response to emergencies, and providing patient-centered care that prioritizes the needs and well-being of each individual we serve.
As we move forward, we remain dedicated to giving every patient the best possible chance for recovery through evidence-based, compassionate care. We are grateful for this recognition from the American Heart Association for the second consecutive year and are motivated to continue elevating the standard for stroke treatment in Northeast Oklahoma in the years to come.
