Ascension St. Vincent Heart Center Earns a 5-Star Rating from CMS

Ascension St. Vincent Heart Center has announced that it received a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) 2025 Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings. These ratings, which assess quality of care, patient safety and patient experience, are essential to patients and families making informed healthcare decisions.

Ascension St. Vincent is proud of our physician owners of the Heart Center, which has earned the prestigious five-star rating each year since 2016 when the federal CMS ratings program began.

The CMS Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings are derived from 46 publicly reported quality measures across five quality domains: Mortality, Patient Experience, Readmission, Safety of Care, and Timely and Effective Care. These quality measures are aggregated and a single composite star rating is assigned by CMS for each hospital, with five stars indicating the highest level of hospital performance. CMS requires all hospitals participating in Medicare to collect data for each quality measure, which are reported on Care Compare.

"This achievement helps our patients and families assess hospital quality in key areas that matter to them, and we take pride in exceeding those expectations of high-quality care, " said Lori Shannon, RN, MBA, President of the ASV Heart Center. “These results reflect the dedication of our caregivers, associates and physicians who consistently deliver compassionate care to our patients and their families in their time of need.”

In 2025, CMS reported a star score for 2,891 U.S. hospitals with the national average star rating decreasing from 3.13 stars in 2024 to 3.08 stars in the current year. Ascension had 41 hospitals receive a star rating with the average rating across all facilities of 3.37 stars. Of those Ascension facilities, approximately 21 earned either a five- or four-star rating, reflecting a superior level of performance compared to hospitals with three or fewer stars.

Patients, families and communities can view the star ratings for acute care hospitals on the Care Compare website, a useful tool that can help with making informed healthcare choices.
