Expanding Access to Primary Care in Middle Tennessee

Expanding Access to Primary Care in Middle Tennessee

Middle Tennessee is one of the fastest-growing regions in the country, and with that growth comes an increasing need for accessible, high-quality primary care. Primary care providers are often the first point of connection for individuals and families, helping patients stay healthy, manage chronic conditions, and coordinate specialty care when needed.

With 22 primary care locations across the region, Ascension Saint Thomas is committed to meeting this need by growing with our community. Over the past 14 months, we have expanded our team with 25 new primary care providers across Middle Tennessee. These physicians and advanced practice providers are bringing compassionate care closer to home for more people than ever before.

Why We Are Prioritizing Primary Care

"As Middle Tennessee continues to grow, we recognize that access to primary care is the foundation of a healthy community,” said Beth Van Gilder, Chief Operating Officer of Ascension Saint Thomas Medical Partners. “By expanding our network of primary care providers, we are ensuring that more individuals and families can connect with trusted providers close to home."

Training the Next Generation of Caregivers

According to the Association of American Medical Colleges there is projected to be a shortage of up to 40,400 primary care doctors by 2036. To help address this need, Ascension Saint Thomas partners with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center to train the next generation of caregivers. Through residency programs in internal medicine and family medicine across Middle Tennessee, we are preparing physicians to deliver high-quality, compassionate care in the communities that need it most.
