Hundreds Receive Free Healthcare, Food Support, and Winter Essentials at Ascension St. Vincent’s Ninth Annual Medical Mission at Home

Ascension St. Vincent provided hundreds of Hoosiers with free medical, dental, and social services during its ninth annual Medical Mission at Home on Saturday at St. Monica Catholic Church in Indianapolis. The event brought together more than 200 volunteers – including physicians, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, behavioral health experts, social workers and community partners – to support nearly 500 individuals and families facing barriers to care.

Guests received free medical and dental screenings, flu shots, medication assistance, diabetes and hypertension checks, ear and vision screenings, behavioral health support, and referrals to long-term community resources. Families also received access to food pantry items, personal care kits, coat distribution, car seats, bike helmets, and other essentials aimed at supporting overall health and household stability.

“Medical Mission at Home is a visible expression of our commitment to serve with compassion,” said Nicole Kowalski, Director of Health Access, Ascension St. Vincent. “This event brings healthcare directly into the community, eliminating barriers like cost, transportation, lack of insurance, and even fear or stigma. Every person is treated with dignity and respect, and receives whole-person care. Body, mind, and spirit.”

Indiana continues to see growing demand for accessible, low-cost health and wellness services. Many families face delayed care due to lack of insurance, rising costs, or challenges with transportation - leading to preventable emergencies. For households experiencing food insecurity or financial strain, preventive care and necessities such as medications, winter clothing, diapers, and hygiene items can be especially difficult to access.

By bringing care into a trusted neighborhood church, Medical Mission at Home removes barriers and offers an environment where guests feel comfortable seeking help.
