A ribbon cutting celebration marked the grand opening of a new Freestanding Emergency Department (FSED) in Perdido Key. The festivities marked a significant upgrade in emergency care available to residents in the area.
This state-of-the-art facility will bring expanded access to high-quality emergency care, closer to where patients live, work and play. Located at 13139 Sorrento Road, the FSED provides faster access to high-level emergency care for a community located roughly 20 miles from Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.
Joined by members of the Perdido Chamber of Commerce and Greater Pensacola Chamber of Commerce, Ascension Sacred Heart Leadership highlighted the importance of this new facility.
“The ability to have this high level of emergency care in this area is a game changer,” said Dr. Jay Nichols, Department Chairman of Emergency Services, Ascension Sacred Heart. “It’s a life saver.”
The roughly 11,000-square-foot emergency room will include two triage areas, one trauma room, nine treatment spaces, CT and X-ray technology and pharmacy capabilities. Over 40 associates will work at the new care site.
It continues the ministry’s legacy of delivering medical services in the Perdido Key community, which began with offering primary care services 35 years ago. Sacred Heart opened the area's first health center in 2017.
“This addition ensures those who live in southwest Escambia County get the timely and quality healthcare they need,” said Sacred Heart Pensacola President & CEO Will Condon. “With our community growing, it is up to us to meet their medical needs and grow with them.”
The facility is Ascension’s 3rd FSED in the Pensacola area, joining locations in northwest Pensacola (1501 W 9 Mile Rd) and Navarre (7334 Navarre Pkwy), A 4th FSED, under construction in Pace, is expected to open in spring of 2026.
The $15 million facility will be operated jointly by Sacred Heart Pensacola and Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart.
Sacred Heart Pensacola Hospital has the region’s only Level I Trauma Center. Studer Family Children’s Hospital is the sole children’s hospital in the region.
