Ascension Saint Thomas and Legacy Primary Care Announce New Integrated Medical Campus in Mt. Juliet

Ascension Saint Thomas and Legacy Primary Care Announce New Integrated Medical Campus in Mt. Juliet

New healthcare development at Legacy Pointe will expand access to 24/7 freestanding emergency services and primary care.

Ascension Saint Thomas and Legacy Primary Care today announced plans for a new medical development in Mt. Juliet, Tenn., designed to expand access to emergency and outpatient care for one of the state’s fastest-growing communities.

Pending state approval, the project will feature a 24/7 freestanding emergency department (FSED), owned and operated by Ascension Saint Thomas and co-located with Legacy Primary Care, a division of Summit Medical Group.

The development will bring around-the-clock emergency and primary care to the growing medical hub at Legacy Pointe @ Golden Bear, located near the intersection of Golden Bear Gateway and Interstate 40 at Exit 229.

Ascension Saint Thomas will invest $23 million to build the FSED, while Legacy Primary Care will relocate its practice to the campus to provide a foundation of physician-led primary care. Together, these providers are creating a comprehensive medical destination alongside established specialty services from Tennessee Oncology, Howell Allen Clinic, Ascension Saint Thomas Heart and Ascension Saint Thomas Gastroenterology.

“As Mt. Juliet continues to see historic growth, this new health campus with our physician partners and 24/7 emergency department will provide the community a new option for expanded access to high-quality, lifesaving care,” said Fahad Tahir, president and CEO of Ascension Saint Thomas. “By co-locating emergency care alongside Legacy Primary Care and the established specialty healthcare hub at Legacy Pointe, we are offering a coordinated model that is fully integrated into the Ascension Saint Thomas network our communities trust.”

Mt. Juliet’s population has surged by more than 86 percent since 2010, placing increased demand on local healthcare infrastructure. This expansion is a direct response to requests from patients, physicians, and healthcare payers for expanded access and more choices for care in Wilson County.

Ascension Saint Thomas currently operates 20 sites of care in Wilson County and provides more than 170,000 patient encounters annually. The project ensures that the thousands of residents who already trust Ascension Saint Thomas, and the community at large, have greater access to critical care when every minute matters.

“We are thrilled to partner with Ascension Saint Thomas to further the vision of an integrated health campus at Legacy Pointe,” said Dr. Chad Kurzynske, an internal medicine physician with Legacy Primary Care. “By relocating our practice to this growing medical campus, we are improving the patient experience and ensuring that the families we serve have a seamless destination for their health, ranging from routine wellness visits to urgent, high-acuity care.”

The facility is expected to create approximately 35 new professional healthcare jobs once it opens. City leaders said the project will strengthen both healthcare access and economic development in the community.

“This investment represents the kind of thoughtful growth Wilson County needs as our community continues to expand,” said Randall Hutto, Mayor of Wilson County. “As more families choose to call Mt. Juliet and Wilson County home, access to high-quality healthcare services becomes increasingly important. This project strengthens the healthcare infrastructure in one of our fastest-growing corridors and supports the long-term needs of our residents.”

The Mt. Juliet FSED will provide the same level of care as a hospital-based emergency room and will include:

  • 24/7 emergency services
  • 11,250-square-foot facility
  • 10 treatment rooms, two triage rooms, and one trauma room
  • On-site CT, X-ray, and ultrasound imaging
  • Full-service laboratory services
  • Experienced emergency physicians and clinical teams

Ascension Saint Thomas recently filed a Certificate of Need application with the Tennessee Health Facilities Commission. Upon approval, the project will move into the design and construction phases, with continued coordination among project partners, the City of Mt. Juliet and Wilson County to ensure efficient site access and traffic flow.
