Ascension Seton is proud to announce that it will be the first hospital system in Central Texas to deploy a mobile stroke unit, a transformative advancement in emergency neurological care. The initiative is supported by a $1.25 million grant from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC), which will aid in the acquisition and operation of this life-saving resource.
"At Ascension Seton, we know that every second matters during a stroke," said Meredith Wells, Vice President of Neurosciences & Spine Services Lines, Ascension Texas. "Launching Central Texas' first mobile stroke unit is about shortening the distance between a patient in crisis and expert stroke neurologist care. We are grateful for HHSC's support, which allows us to bring world-class stroke care exactly where and when it is needed most."
The mobile stroke unit is currently in production and is scheduled to be deployed into the market in 2027. Designed to function as an emergency room on wheels, the unit will be equipped with specialized diagnostic tools, including a portable CT scanner and point-of-care laboratory, allowing medical teams to begin critical stroke interventions before the patient even reaches the hospital.
As we prepare for the 2027 launch, Ascension Seton remains committed to its mission of providing comprehensive, integrated care across Central Texas. This mobile stroke unit represents the latest step in Ascension’s ongoing commitment to neurological innovation and compassionate patient support. This initiative is being undertaken to meet the needs of a growing community and to provide them with the best and most complex care possible.
