What is happening?
Ascension Sacred Heart has officially begun the process to build a new, freestanding emergency room in the Perdido Key area of Escambia County off of Sorrento Road. Preliminary plans are to complete construction in late 2025. This roughly 11,000-square-foot emergency room will ensure those who live in southwest Escambia County get the timely and quality healthcare they need.

Isn’t there already a primary care location in that location in Perdido Key?
Sacred Heart has long been committed to servicing the needs of the Perdido Key community, offering primary care for over 35 years. In July 2017, the health system built the first health center in the area, offering rehab, imaging, primary care, lab and specialty care. The addition of the emergency department underscores Sacred Heart's commitment to providing residents access to quality healthcare. This brings mission-driven healthcare to more patients across Northwest Florida.

Why Ascension Sacred Heart?
Ascension Sacred Heart has served residents in the Pensacola and surrounding areas for generations, and has had sites of care in the community for over 100 years.
We currently provide care in the Pensacola area through physician partnerships, urgent care, outpatient centers, and specialty services, and are expanding that commitment with this new emergency care location.
As a not-for-profit, faith-based ministry, we are focused on healing with compassion as our highest priority. Our model ensures that revenue is reinvested in our communities to improve care, support local programs, and expand access.

What services will this facility offer?
The new facility will provide emergency care, along with a triage area, resuscitation room, nine treatment spaces and CT and X-ray technology, right here in Perdido Key.
This new location will offer a trusted, high-quality emergency care option, expanding local access and keeping care local.

What is the timeline for building the new freestanding ER?
Construction is already well underway. We expect the facility to open in late fall of 2025.
