Noting that the U.S. healthcare delivery system is in the midst of tremendous transformation, Ascension President and Chief Executive Officer Anthony R. Tersigni, EdD, FACHE, told an online audience that healthcare providers are experiencing “seismic changes.” And he shared his prediction for the future.
Tersigni provided the Opening Keynote for Modern Healthcare’s daylong 2014 virtual conference and expo, “Building Tomorrow’s Delivery Model – Forging a Path to Value” on October 15.
In his remarks to an audience of healthcare leaders from around the country, Tersigni discussed how Ascension is quickly evolving in order to remain a vibrant, Mission-focused national leader in quality and safety, with a special emphasis on person-centered care. “While our aspiration and strategic priorities would not change, we needed to evolve our approach to ensure that we achieve our objectives in service to our communities,” he said.
Tersigni discussed what he views as the three phases of healthcare transformation that the U.S. will face over the next several years, moving from person-centered care to more active consumer engagement, and from consumer engagement to what he called “the science of prevention.”
He concluded his remarks by emphasizing the importance of leadership in the transformation of healthcare. “For Ascension, I am convinced that having a strong, centered, focused leadership team is essential to the long-term growth of our integrated ministry,” Tersigni said. “And that’s why leadership development is such a personal passion of mine.”
Following the keynote presentation, attendees were invited to attend a “virtual chat” to offer their own perspectives. Many applauded Ascension for its visionary focus on person-centered care, with one contributor noting, “when I hear an excellent and inspiring presentation like [Tersigni’s], I believe that true healthcare transformation is possible and that value-based care may soon be a reality.”
