Violinist Returns After Brain Surgery

The thought of never playing the viola again was devastating for Monisa Angell of Brentwood, Tennessee.

In the summer of 2014, Monisa was diagnosed with a very large benign brain tumor. She and her husband, David, both concert musicians, were stunned and terrified. There were warning signs over the years that something was wrong. Monisa had constant migraines, sensitivity to light, but she never imagined just how severe the issue could be. She hit her breaking point when she developed a slight tremor in her hand, threatening her ability to play the viola.

That's when she went to go see Drs. Steven Abram and Paul Rosenblatt at Saint Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, part of Saint Thomas Health, an Ascension Ministry. The two doctors head the UNITY System, a multidisciplinary team of neurosurgeons, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, radiologists, pathologists and other clinicians who work together to find solutions for brain tumor patients.

Watch a video story to find out how the UNITY team at Saint Thomas Health gave Monisa her life and career back.
