Bonaventure House, a transitional housing program operated by the Alexian Brothers Housing and Health Alliance (ABHHA), was among several Chicago-area recipients of grants from DIFFA/Chicago (Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS/Chicago). DIFFA/Chicago cited Bonaventure House's success rate in moving residents from homelessness and addiction to sustained, independent housing.
"DIFFA/Chicago is a longtime supporter of our services," Cheryl Potts, Executive Director of ABHHA, said in accepting the award. "They have been with us fighting AIDS and homelessness from the very beginning. We are honored to be awarded funding for Bonaventure House."
Bonaventure House opened in 1989 in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood to create a home for people living with HIV/AIDS. It also provides a variety of resources, including individual case management, recovery services, occupational therapy, spiritual care and continuing support after a resident transitions to independent living. Bonaventure House and The Harbor, which is located in Waukegan, Illinois, and also is operated by ABHHA, are the only state-licensed and state-funded recovery homes for men and women living with HIV/AIDS in Illinois.
In presenting its grants, DIFFA/Chicago honored programs and projects that were innovative and demonstrated an existing or expected impact in their focus area. The grants were presented during ceremonies March 25 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
