Ascension Seton program helps veterans with PTSD

Ascension Seton in Austin, Texas, has a new Veteran Restore Program. The six-week Intensive Outpatient Program is for veterans experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Led by Valerie Rosen, MD, a psychiatrist at Ascension Seton, the program aims to help veterans experiencing PTSD reclaim their life after a trauma by retraining their mind and body to learn it is no longer in danger.

The program incorporates cognitive processing therapy, behavioral therapy, resilient yoga, resilience training and community outings. It is modeled after Ascension Seton’s civilian Restore Intensive Outpatient Program, which began in 2017. About 50 percent of patients no longer meet criteria for PTSD after the six-week program. In addition, those who retain their diagnosis and participate in all aspects of the program show clinically significant improvement.

The free program is offered to groups of up to 10 patients. Austin media outlets, including the Austin-American Statesman, Patch.com, KXAN and FOX 7, recently shared stories about the program.
