Congressman visits Ascension Tennessee

U.S. Rep. Jim Cooper (D-Tennessee), who represents Nashville, visited an Ascension Tennessee site during the August congressional recess. Cooper met with Tim Adams, Senior Vice President, Ascension, and Ministry Market Executive, Ascension Tennessee; Fahad Tahir, President and CEO, Ascension Saint Thomas Midtown and West Hospitals; Geoff Smallwood, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Ascension Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital; and Nancy Anness, Chief Advocacy Officer, Ascension Tennessee.

The group discussed surprise billing, rising drug prices, the 340B Drug Pricing Program and the expansion of Ascension Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital, where Cooper received a tour following the meeting.

The congressman learned about several initiatives in obstetrics/labor and delivery, innovative opioid interventions by Ascension Saint Thomas emergency physicians, Saint Vincent de Paul Dispensary (a Dispensary of Hope charitable medication distribution site), and state-of-the-art joint replacement surgery suites and a recovery/rehab floor for patients receiving total joint replacements.
