Two leaders of AMITA Health, the Chicago-based joint operating company formed by Ascension and AdventHealth, are included in a new Crain’s list of Notable Women in Health Care: Laura Concannon, MD, MBA, FACP, Regional Chief Medical Officer, Chicago Metro Region, and Beth Tze, CEO, AMITA Health Medical Group.
The list spotlights 50 accomplished professionals including executives at top teaching hospitals, researchers, senior administrators of community hospitals, practice groups and clinics, as well as city and state regulators and executives at insurers, industry associations and accrediting organizations, and other groups. “The common denominator: These women went into healthcare to help people and have staked out paths to make an impact,” Crain’s said.
“Dr. Laura Concannon has improved the clinical outcomes for the region by spearheading initiatives to reduce clinical variation and analyzing reasons for patient readmissions,” Crain’s said. “She has streamlined illness, prevention and behavioral health services and subscribes to value-based purchasing.”
Beth Tze leads Amita Health Medical Group, which coordinates primary and specialty care across 78 locations in the Chicago suburbs. “Tze is responsible for more than 800 physicians, psychologists and advanced-practice clinicians generating professional revenue of $400 million,” Crain’s said. “She managed the integration of the Adventist and Alexian medical groups in 2015 and the Presence group last year.”
To be on the list, women must be based in the Chicago area and have shown the ability or power to effect change in the healthcare industry. “They have demonstrated a willingness to share expertise and have assumed leadership positions outside their organizations,” Crain’s said.
