Ascension Sacred Heart plans freestanding ED, office building

Ascension Sacred Heart, part of Ascension Florida, recently announced plans for a $15 million free-standing emergency department and medical office building in Navarre, Florida.

“We will bring out our dedicated staff, our incredible providers, our calling to care for those in the community, and I want everyone to know that,” said Dawn Rudolph, president of Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola said. “This isn’t just another building to us; this is an extension of who we are.”

Construction is scheduled to begin in early March and should be completed late this year.

The new ER will provide 24-hour emergency services for children and adults, and will have a separate waiting area and treatment rooms for children. It will include 13 treatment rooms and two trauma rooms staffed by emergency medicine physicians, nurses and respiratory therapists. In addition, the facility will provide the services of a lab, pharmacy, CT scanner and X-ray imaging.

The site also will include a helipad so patients requiring immediate surgery or other advanced hospital treatments can be rapidly transported to the Level II Trauma Center at Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola. The ER facility will be operated by the Pensacola hospital as well as the Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart. The new medical office building will have 10,000 square feet of space for primary care physicians, pediatricians, and specialists such as cardiologists and general surgeons.

Ascension Sacred Heart also started construction this month of a similar freestanding ER on Nine Mile Road in Pensacola.

The new ER in Navarre is the latest effort by Ascension Sacred Heart to extend its services into south Santa Rosa County. In 2017, the health system opened an outpatient medical facility along Highway 98 in Tiger Point that provides imaging facilities, physician offices and rehabilitation services. Also in 2017, the Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart opened a new Pediatric Care Center in Gulf Breeze.

“We want to continue to make it easier for patients to receive the care they need – when and where they need it,” said Tom VanOsdol, Senior Vice President, Ascension, and Ministry Market Executive, Ascension Florida.
