Sean McAfee named President & CEO of Ascension St. Vincent’s St. Johns County

 Ascension St. Vincent’s has named Sean McAfee President and CEO of Ascension St. Vincent’s St. Johns County, effective July 5, 2026. 

McAfee has served as interim president and CEO since Spring 2026 and brings operational and clinical leadership experience to the position. He previously served as chief nursing officer and chief operating officer at the hospital since its opening in 2022. His leadership has played a key role in building a culture centered on patient safety, clinical excellence and compassionate care.

“I am honored to serve in this role and lead our hospital into its next chapter of growth,” said Sean McAfee, president and CEO of Ascension St. Vincent’s St. Johns County. “My priority is to build on the incredible foundation we’ve created together by continuing to foster a culture where associates and physicians feel supported and empowered to deliver the exceptional care the St. Johns County community deserves.“ 

As CEO, McAfee will focus on strengthening workplace and clinical culture while supporting strategic growth to meet rising community demand for healthcare services.

“Sean’s commitment to culture and quality, patient-centered care has helped shape St. Vincent’s St. Johns County from day one,” said Scott Kashman, CEO of Ascension St. Vincent’s. “His leadership has been instrumental in building a high-performing hospital rooted in compassion and excellence. We’re confident he’ll advance our Mission while expanding access to care for the growing St. Johns County community.” 

Sean is a native of Northeast Florida and served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy Reserves. After his honorable discharge, he dedicated his career to healthcare leadership, bringing more than 30 years of progressive operational and clinical experience. 

Ascension St. Vincent’s St. Johns County has earned recognition for quality, safety and patient experience, including strong consumer satisfaction scores and national recognition for clinical excellence. The hospital continues to expand services to meet the needs of one of Florida’s fastest-growing communities, including the planned Family Birth Place, which will bring labor and delivery services and a Level II NICU closer to home for local families.
