Edward T. A. Fry, MD, FACC, FSCAI, Chair of Ascension’s National Cardiovascular Service Line as well as the Cardiology Division and Cardiovascular Service Line at Ascension St. Vincent Indianapolis, has been selected to serve as President of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) Board of Trustees, effective April 4.
Dr. Fry is a founding member of the Ascension St. Vincent Heart Center in Indianapolis and currently serves as Vice President of the ACC Board.
“This is a well-deserved honor for Ed, who has devoted his career to service and the advancement of cardiovascular care. The ACC Board will benefit greatly from his wisdom and insight,” said Joseph Cacchione, MD, FACC, Executive Vice President, Clinical & Network Services, Ascension.
“Ed is a wonderful clinician, a strategic thinker, an individual with tremendous cardiology business expertise, and a cardiologist who has used data to drive quality and performance improvement on a local and national scale,” said Richard Fogel, MD, FACC, FHRS, Senior Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer, Clinical & Network Services, Ascension. “But more than that, Ed is a great leader – one who has vision, thinks strategically, has influence and the ability to communicate and inspire others to follow, is a good listener, and possesses great organizational awareness and focus on mission.
“Watching Ed manage is like watching the conductor of a great symphony orchestra. His in-depth knowledge of interventional cardiology, advanced heart failure, cardiac imaging and electrophysiology helps him understand how all of the subspecialties of cardiology fit into the big picture, and will serve the American College of Cardiology well in its relationships with the other cardiology specialty societies.”
Dr. Fry attended medical school at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and completed his residency in internal medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. He completed a two-year cardiovascular research fellowship focused on pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics of native and genetically modified plasminogen activators. He also completed a general cardiology fellowship at Washington University, where he then served as assistant professor and medical director of the cardiac transplant program before completing an interventional cardiology fellowship at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital Indianapolis.
In 1991, he joined the cardiology practice at Ascension St. Vincent, where he continues to be a busy interventional and general cardiologist.
