Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital Recognized as One of the World’s Best Hospitals by Newsweek

Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital has been named to the 2025 Newsweek list of World’s Best Hospitals, which recognizes the top medical institutions among 2,400 across 30 countries.

Ascension Saint Thomas is one of only three Tennessee hospitals to receive this distinction, out of more than 170 hospitals statewide. This prestigious award is presented by Newsweek and Statista Inc., the world-leading statistics portal and industry-ranking provider. In addition to this recognition, Ascension Saint Thomas was also honored in the World’s Best Infection Prevention Hospitals category, which highlights U.S. hospitals that performed “above the national average” based on six reported measures.

The Newsweek recognition serves as a benchmark for quality care and a trusted resource for patients and their families. It was developed using a rigorous methodology designed to ensure accuracy and reliability. Three data sources were included: recommendations from an international online survey sent to more than 85,000 doctors, hospital managers, and healthcare professionals; patient satisfaction surveys; and key indicators, including patient safety, hygiene measures, and quality of treatment.

Additionally, this year’s ranking incorporates Patient-Reported Outcome Measures, which assess how patients feel about their health through standardized, validated questionnaires. A notable update to the 2025 methodology is the increased weight given to hospital quality metrics, emphasizing the importance of key medical performance indicators.

“Recognition like this reflects our deep commitment to serving our community and delivering high-quality specialized care to our patients,” said Dr. Shubhada Jagasia, CEO of Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital. “The hard work and dedication of our physicians, nurses, and entire hospital team have earned us a place among the world’s best hospitals, a testament to our focus on both exceptional quality care and patient experience.”

Newsweek stated that hospitals on this list share a key characteristic—consistency. These institutions consistently attract the best professionals, achieve top patient outcomes, and implement groundbreaking new therapies and research. Newsweek emphasized that only a select few hospitals worldwide sustain this level of excellence year after year.

The complete list of honorees can be viewed on Newsweek’s website: Newsweek World’s Best Hospitals 2025.
