Ascension St. Vincent Recognizes its 3,797 Physicians Who Provide Excellence in Health Care

At the heart of Ascension St. Vincent hospitals and medical clinics, the heroic men and women in white coats go about their daily tasks of providing excellence in health care and saving lives from the very young to the young at heart. It is in honor of this tireless dedication that we join the nation in celebrating our 3,797 physicians and advanced practice providers on National Doctors Day 2025.

Traditionally observed on March 30, National Doctors Day is set aside for grateful patients and family members to make a special effort to thank their doctor - whether they are primary care physicians, emergency room doctors or specialists.

“As physicians, we have the privilege and responsibility of caring for our patients during some of the most critical moments of their lives. Every day, we earn their trust through our dedication, expertise, and compassion,” said Stephen Swinney, MD, Chief Clinical Officer, Ascension St. Vincent Indiana. “On National Doctors’ Day, we recognize the countless hours, sacrifices, and unwavering commitment of our colleagues who work tirelessly to heal, comfort, and serve—especially the most vulnerable among us.

National Doctors Day dates back more than 90 years to Winder, Georgia, a community with 18,000 residents just outside the city of Atlanta when the wife of a family physician felt doctors deserved a little extra recognition. She encouraged everyone to send greeting cards to their doctors and lay flowers at the graves of those who had died.
