Ascension Saint Thomas Heart Launches “250 Screens in 250 Days” Following Strong Early Turnout in Women’s Heart Screenings

More sessions are planned in the community to help make a change for women’s heart health

Building on the success of two recent public screening sessions that drew 88 participants, Ascension Saint Thomas Women’s Heart Program has launched a bold new initiative, “250 Screens in 250 Days,” to improve heart health outcomes for women across Tennessee.

The campaign kicked off Thursday, July 31 with a free day of heart health screenings for Metro Nashville teachers at Hillsboro High School. The second event was held at YWCA Nashville on Aug. 8. Sponsored by Tim and Candy Adams and hosted by the Ascension Saint Thomas Heart Women’s Program Community Advisory Board, the event marked the beginning of a year-long effort to help more women take control of their heart health. The initiative is being led by the Ascension Saint Thomas Heart Women’s Program Medical Director Dr. Nishtha Sareen.

The Women’s Heart Program specializes in diagnosing, treating, and monitoring heart conditions, including heart disease, heart attack, and chronic chest pain, with a focus on the unique ways women experience and respond to heart disease.

“Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women, but many don’t realize that their symptoms can be very different from men’s,” said Dr. Sareen. “This turnout underscores the community’s commitment to proactive health and early detection and we are building on that momentum with ‘250 Screens in 250 Days,’ bringing accessible, personalized heart care to women across Middle Tennessee.”

At the public screening events, attendees will receive:

  • Blood pressure check
  • Body Mass Index (BMI) measurement
  • 12-lead EKG (heart rhythm test)
  • One-on-one consultation with a heart specialist

Following the launch, additional screening events will be held in communities across the region, providing more women the opportunity to understand their risk, detect problems early, and connect with specialized care.

Future screening dates with community outreach partners include:

Aug. 14: Nashville State Community College - Employees

Aug. 15: Nashville State Community College - Nursing Students

Aug. 18: Thistle Farms - Alabama Building

Aug. 21: Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital Midtown - Associates and Staff

Aug. 28: Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital Midtown - Associates and Staff

Sept. 10: The Pinnacle Tower at Nashville Yards
