Ascension Providence patient has breakthrough robotic spine procedure

Due to the nature of his occupation, Efra Trejo began to experience immense back pain on a daily basis. He tried common treatments, but none of them seemed to make a difference in reliving his pain or improving the quality of life. Efra was referred to Dr. John Dietz at Providence Hospital in Waco to discuss a more permanent solution. After a consultation, Dr. Dietz recommended that Efra have the L4 and L5 of his spine repaired using Providence’s new Globus Robot to assist Dr. Dietz during the surgery.

Efra quickly recovered from the procedure and quickly no longer had a pain in his back. Today, Efra no longer has any pain in his back and is able to do all aspects of his job. He is proud to share that with his community that they don’t need to travel long distances to receive high-quality surgical care and he recommends that his friends and family seek care at Providence Hospital.

“I am amazed at the technological advance that has come to Waco, that we can make use of it, and I’m very happy — it is a quick intervention and we don’t have to go from a small town to another state," said Ascension Providence patient, Efra Trejo. “I want to thank Dr. Dietz and the entire team at Ascension Providence for helping me get back on my feet.”

Ensuring our patients have the highest quality of care possible is part of our core mission at Ascension Providence Hospital and we are honored to continue to support our community and help individuals like Efra get back to their daily lives pain free.

Ascension Seton Hays reveals symbolic sculpture from local artist

Ascension Seton Hays is now home to a new sculpture made by local artist Joshua Farrell. The hospital commissioned Joshua to create a symbolic piece for patients and associates to enjoy. Crafted with purpose and heart, the tree reflects the hospital's mission to offer compassionate, holistic care to every person who walks through our doors. It reminds us that healing is not just clinical — it’s also emotional, spiritual, and deeply human.
