Ascension St. Vincent’s Riverside and Southside earn ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grades

Ascension St. Vincent’s Riverside and Southside earn ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grades

St. Vincent’s Riverside and Southside have earned ‘A’ Fall 2025 Hospital Safety Grades from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization focused on patient safety.

The Safety Grade assigns an ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’, or ‘F’ grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.

“Providing a safe atmosphere for our patients is of the utmost priority at our hospitals,” said Dr. Mario Pulido, St. Vincent’s Chief Medical Officer. “We’re thankful for the efforts all of our associates have made to protect those who have trusted us with their care.”

This is the third consecutive ‘A' for St. Vincent’s Southside, dating back to fall 2024. St. Vincent’s Riverside improved from a ‘B’ in Spring 2025, marking its first ‘A’ in more than three years.

“This ‘A’ grade is demonstrative of the tireless work of our associates at every level to keep our patients out of harm’s way,” said Scott Kashman, President & CEO of St. Vincent’s Riverside. “Our hospital is on an upward trajectory in all aspects of care, focused on providing the best experience and outcomes for patients across our region.”

The grading system is peer-reviewed and open to public scrutiny. Hospital Safety Grades are updated each fall and spring.

“Earning an ‘A’ Grade means St. Vincent’s Riverside and Southside made a true commitment to put patient safety first,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We congratulate the leadership, Board, clinicians, staff and volunteers that all had a role to play in this achievement.”
