Ascension Illinois is excited to announce that two of its hospitals have received recognitions from Castle Connolly in several surgical disciplines, according to reports. Ascension Alexian Brothers in Elk Grove Village earned two surgical recognitions, including a national recognition in coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG) and a regional recognition in spine surgery.
CABG is a procedure used to treat the buildup of plaques in the arteries of the heart. It can relieve chest pain, slow the progression of heart disease and increase life expectancy.
Ascension Alexian Brothers is a destination for specialty care — including heart and vascular, neurosurgery, critical care, stroke care, and more. The team here is committed to supporting cardiovascular clinical research. By participating in national and regional trials, our investigators help improve the treatment and diagnosis of heart and vascular diseases. The hospital also employs a specialized team which uses interventional techniques to help diagnose and treat brain, spine and nervous system conditions.
Our other acknowledged facility, Ascension Saint Joseph - Chicago, received a national recognition in mastectomy surgery.
Saint Joseph operates a High Risk Breast Cancer Clinic which employs breast imaging specialists, fellowship-trained breast surgeons, women’s health nurse navigators and breast health educators, all to provide the most robust breast health care possible.
Last year, both hospitals earned recognitions from the American Heart Association for their continued efforts in improving cardiac and stroke care for those across Chicagoland.
The American College of Surgeons’ National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers also awarded an accreditation to Saint Joseph last year, labeling the hospital’s breast center as an ACS Surgical Quality Partner. This designation recognizes Saint Joseph’s maintenance of the highest standards in surgical breast care. The Chicago hospital also earned a spot on Forbes’ inaugural list of the nation’s top hospitals for 2026.
