Pediatric patients at Peyton Manning Children's Hospital enjoyed a memorable day as Ascension St. Vincent partnered with the Indiana Fever to host a special Build-A-Bear Workshop.
During the event, children that have received care at the hospital had the opportunity to create their very own stuffed bears, taking part in the signature Build-A-Bear Heart Ceremony by giving their bears a "strong heartbeat," making a wish and placing a heart inside before bringing them to life. Patients then dressed their new companions in customized Indiana Fever jerseys, creating keepsakes to take home.
The celebration also featured special visits from Indiana Fever guard Lexie Hull, mascot Freddy Fever and the Fever Inferno dance team. They spent time meeting patients and families, posing for photos, and helping brighten the day for children throughout the hospital.
"We’re here today building bears with our patients and their siblings and families," said Amy Heincker, CPNP, nurse practitioner at Peyton Manning Children's Hospital. "These visits help break up the day-to-day monotony of a hospital stay and provide fun and long-lasting memories for these kids."
The workshop reflects Ascension St. Vincent's ongoing commitment to caring for the whole person by supporting not only patients' physical health but also their emotional well-being. Through partnerships with community organizations, the health system continues to create experiences that bring comfort, hope and happiness to children and families receiving care.
