Ascension St. Vincent Equips East Gibson School Staff with Lifesaving Trauma Training Ahead of New Academic Year

Just one day before welcoming students back to the classroom, educators and administrative staff across the East Gibson School Corporation gathered for a hands-on "Stop the Bleed" training session aimed at preparing personnel for critical medical emergencies.

The live demonstration, hosted in partnership with Ascension St. Vincent Evansville, brought hospital trauma specialists directly to school staff to teach essential, immediate interventions. Participants learned how to properly apply tourniquets, place pressure dressings, and pack wounds during the interactive workshop.

To ensure staff can put the training into practice if needed, Ascension St. Vincent donated 75 specialized safety kits filled with essential trauma supplies to schools across the district.

Uncontrolled bleeding is the leading cause of preventable death in traumatic injury cases. Medical experts emphasize that the initial minutes following an injury are critical, and having trained personnel on site to act before emergency responders arrive significantly improves survival outcomes.

District leaders and hospital representatives noted that equipping teachers and staff with both practical skills and clinical tools is part of a broader effort to foster a safe, prepared, and supportive environment for students, faculty, and families as the new school year begins.
