Multiple Ascension Wisconsin hospitals have been named among U.S. News & World Report’s 2026-2027 Best Hospitals edition as “High Performing” hospitals for various procedures, conditions and specialties. This is the highest distinction a hospital can earn as part of U.S. News’ Best Hospitals Procedures & Conditions ratings.
Here is a list of those hospitals and their respective High Performing ratings:
- Ascension Columbia St. Mary's Hospitals (Milwaukee and Ozaukee Campuses) - High Performing in Lung Cancer Surgery, Heart Failure, Diabetes Care, Stroke Care, Maternity Care, and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
- Ascension NE Wisconsin Hospitals (St. Elizabeth and Mercy Hospitals) - High Performing in Back Surgery, Maternity Care, and Hip Replacement
- Ascension SE Wisconsin Hospitals - (Franklin, Elmbrook and St. Joseph Hospitals - High Performing in Colon Cancer Surgery, Stroke Care, Maternity Care (St. Joseph), and Hip Replacement,
- Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin-Glendale - High Performing in Back Surgery, Hip Replacement, and Knee Replacement
- Ascension All Saints Hospital - Spring Street - Maternity Care
Of the more than 4,400 hospitals that U.S. News evaluated, only 43% earned even a single High Performing rating.
“These accolades are a direct reflection of the excellent and compassionate care Ascension Wisconsin’s clinicians provide our patients every day,” said Dr. Kevin Casey, Chief Clinical Officer, Ascension Wisconsin. “We congratulate our care teams for their extraordinary commitment to continually setting the standard for exceptional care.”
U.S. News’ annual Procedures & Conditions ratings are designed to assist patients and their health care providers in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or elective procedures.
“When patients face a major surgery or a chronic medical condition, having access to clear, quality data is vital,” said U.S. News’ Managing Editor and Chief of Health Analysis Ben Harder. “A ‘High Performing’ rating means that these Ascension Wisconsin’s hospitals outperformed a national threshold, giving families a reliable starting point as they consult with their doctors to choose the best place for care.”
U.S. News evaluated nearly 4,500 hospitals across 14 adult specialties and 23 procedures and conditions; less than half earned recognition in any of those 37 areas of care. To determine the Best Hospitals, U.S. News analyzed each hospital’s performance based on objective measures such as risk-adjusted mortality rates, preventable complications and patient experience. The Best Hospitals Specialty rankings methodology and Procedures & Conditions ratings methodology measure patient outcomes using data from over 800 million records of patient care.
