Community Benefit
Significant Non-Profit Impact
In fiscal year 2024, Ascension provided $2.1 billion in care for the poor and community benefit programs. That is four times what we would have paid in taxes as a for-profit company. By reinvesting in our communities, we are working to build a healthier future for everyone, especially the most vulnerable.
Community Benefit and Commitment to Care
At Ascension, our Mission to deliver compassionate, spiritually centered healthcare places the well-being of individuals and communities at the heart of everything we do. Our approach to community benefits extends beyond providing healthcare—it reflects our commitment to expanding access to care, improving the health of all, and addressing the deeper causes of health inequities.
Through our community benefit programs, we actively address the most critical needs by:
- Improving access to healthcare services
- Enhancing public health initiatives
- Advancing knowledge and education
- Relieving the burden on governmental resources to improve health outcomes
Maximizing Our Impact Through Evaluation and Assessment
Every three years, we conduct a comprehensive Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) with local partners to identify and prioritize the most pressing health challenges. This helps us continuously refine our strategies for greater impact.
Our commitment to transparency is reflected in detailed community benefit reporting, as outlined in Schedule H of the IRS Form 990. This includes providing financial assistance to those in need, supporting Medicaid programs and investing in other care for the poor and community benefit initiatives—all aimed at improving health outcomes and reducing disparities in healthcare access.
