Pirolo Named Chief Medical Informatics Officer

As part of the journey to One Ascension and the ongoing design of Ascension’s Clinical Ministry-wide Function, John Pirolo, MD, has been named Ascension Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Informatics Officer, effective Sept. 1. He will report to David Pryor, MD, Ascension Chief Clinical Officer.

Dr. Pirolo will have overall leadership for clinical informatics initiatives across the integrated national health ministry, including supporting Ascension enterprise system architecture work. An early priority will be to engage with clinical informatics leadership across all Ministry Markets.

Dr. Pirolo currently serves as Chief Medical Officer at Saint Thomas Health, Nashville, Tennessee. He has been with Saint Thomas for more than 20 years, beginning as a surgeon providing cardiovascular services at Saint Thomas West Hospital. As Chief Medical Officer, he has led clinical informatics initiatives and had responsibility for overall clinical quality improvement efforts of Saint Thomas Health. In 2014, Dr. Pirolo was recognized as one of the “100 Hospital and Health System CMOs to Know” by Becker’s Hospital Review.
