Ascension Senior Living, Vita Healthcare Group Sign Letter of Intent for Transition of Seton Manor

Ascension Senior Living, one of the largest non-profit and faith-based providers of senior services in the nation, has signed a letter of intent with Vita Healthcare Group (VHG) for the sale of Ascension’s Seton Manor skilled nursing facility in Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania. VHG is a privately owned, New Jersey-based regional owner/operator of skilled nursing facilities that is expanding in the Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York markets.

“We came to this decision after thoughtful discernment and due diligence into the values and strengths of VHG,” said Jesse Jantzen, President and CEO, Ascension Senior Living, which is based in St. Louis. “We feel that, over the long term, this is the right thing to do for the residents and associates of Seton Manor. The transition to VHG sets the community on a path of greater sustainability as Ascension Senior Living does not have the regional density or local health system connectivity needed to succeed in the highly competitive Pennsylvania market.

“We’re very proud of the associates of Seton Manor, which received four stars in their most recent CMS 5 Star Quality Rating. We’ve made significant upgrades and renovations to the facility in recent years. We are confident VHG is committed to maintaining the high degree of service that Seton Manor has given residents of Schuylkill County for years to come.”

The owners of VHG have established a strong track record of innovation, quality, sensitivity to residents’ needs, and a strong commitment to the employees and staff in all their facilities. VHG is committed to maintaining the Catholic culture at Seton Manor. This includes serving the pastoral needs of all residents and continuing the celebration of Masses.

“Seton Manor’s unparalleled reputation of clinical excellence and quality care serving Schuylkill County residents, as well as its location within our existing footprint, were especially important to us and will ensure the facility will serve the community and local medical professionals for many years to come,” said Israel Birnbaum, Principal of Vita Healthcare Group.

Further evaluation of the transaction will take place during the next few months.
