AIS Leader Named Healthcare Technology Executive of the Year

Gerry Lewis, Ascension Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer, and Ascension Information Services President and CEO, has been recognized as one of the St. Louis region’s Technology Executives of the Year by the St. Louis Business Journal. In this inaugural year for the recognition program, leaders across five industries were recognized. Gerry represents the healthcare industry; leaders also were recognized in agriculture, energy, financial services and retail.

The executives were honored at an awards banquet in St. Louis June 22, and an article highlighting the achievements of Gerry and the other winners appeared in the June 23 edition of the publication. In the article, Robert J. Henkel, FACHE, Executive Vice President, Ascension, and President and Chief Executive Officer, Ascension Healthcare, talked about Gerry’s contributions: “Gerry has the unique ability to work effectively across our national health system by building an environment in which the information technology function creates innovation and delivers on our commitment to compassionate, personalized care for all. His efforts have already resulted in a new operational model that is helping Ascension transform information technology business strategies and processes, while proactively using cost-focused decision making to create breakthrough business value.”

This commitment, entrepreneurial mindset and promotion of business value earned Gerry the honor, according to the St. Louis Business Journal. Upon learning of being honored, Gerry said he “was certainly not expecting to be nominated, and absolutely not expecting to win. But what I know is that this recognition is only possible because of the team I’m fortunate to lead — including every one of our associates — and an organizational culture that encourages, supports and promotes innovation and leadership.”

Gerry said he looks forward to continuing to help Ascension use technology in innovative ways to enable growth, create competitive advantages, and support the Mission in the years to come.
