Presence Health is now part of Ascension and AMITA Health

Presence Health is now part of Ascension, the nation’s largest non-profit health system and the largest Catholic health system in the world, joining together to make patient care more accessible for Illinois residents.

Presence Health has added its medical centers, outpatient facilities and most other sites of care to the integrated health system of AMITA Health, a joint venture of Ascension’s Alexian Brothers Health System and Adventist Midwest Health, part of Adventist Health System. The skilled nursing, and assisted and independent living facilities of Presence Life Connections are now part of Ascension Living, Ascension’s senior care subsidiary.

“We are so pleased to welcome the associates, providers and volunteers of Presence Health to Ascension,” said Anthony R. Tersigni, EdD, FACHE, president and chief executive officer, Ascension. “By combining our strengths and learning from one another, we will strengthen Catholic healthcare and our ability to provide compassionate, personalized care in Illinois and in every community across the country where we are privileged to serve.”

“Presence Health and AMITA Health coming together strengthens our ability to deliver on our shared mission of serving all persons in our communities, with special attention to people living in poverty and those most vulnerable,” said Mark A. Frey, president and chief executive officer of AMITA Health and senior vice president of Ascension Healthcare, a division of Ascension. “AMITA Health associates and physicians are eager to begin working more closely with our Presence Health colleagues to provide the compassionate, holistic care our mission calls for in a more efficient way.”

As the Accountable Care Organization of Presence Health is integrated into AMITA Health, the combined strength will allow the organization to even more efficiently and effectively manage the health of large populations.

“Presence Health is proud to join a system with a similar mission and vision and a shared commitment to providing compassionate, quality care throughout our communities,” said Michael Englehart, president and chief executive officer of Presence Health. “We began this process to join Ascension and become part of AMITA Health months ago, and we are excited to now bring together our collective strengths to expand access to care, diversify our physician network and provide better value to our patients. This is a significant moment in our history and we look forward to our future journey with Ascension and AMITA Health.”
